Bissell Brothers Brewing

Located at Thompson's Point Rd in Portland, Maine, Bissell Brothers Brewing opened in December of 2013. Considered one of the most popular Portland, Maine breweries, Bissel Brothers offers a unique selection of beers, including their signature The Substance Ale, I-Lucky, Angels With Filthy Souls, Engram, Pine Tree Agronomics and many others.

Tours of the brewery are coordinated via the Maine Brew Bus throughout the year, making a stop at Bissell Brothers a great item to add to your list of things to do in Portland, Maine when visiting. Conveniently located next to the Portland Transportation Center, Thompson's Point Outdoor Concerts and Events and the ice-skating rink at Thompson's Point, the brewery is just minutes away from many downtown Portland, Maine hotels as well as the Portland International Airport.

Bissel Brothers currently only sells their beer within the state of Maine, due to a demand for their beers that exceeds what they’re able to produce. Additionally, the company prides itself on cultivating “a return to the pre-prohibition beer culture in America—local breweries serving a local market.” They say that they’re invested in serving Portland and the state of Maine and that will remain their sole focus in the foreseeable future.

On most days there is a line out the door of visitors hoping to explore the brewery. As a general rule of thumb, Tuesdays and Thursdays are generally the slowest day of the week for Bissell Brothers and the best days to visit the brewery. Wednesdays and Fridays are usually similar in volume, and Saturdays remain the busiest day of the week, regardless of season.

Additionally, the brewery frequently sells out of their cans several days per week. Their flagship beer, Substance Ale, is the only beer that they allot a set amount for each day. All other beers are sold on their release day until they are gone.

Visitors are able to experience the breweries taprooms in Portland and Milo during the following hours:

Portland

• 12PM Tuesday–Friday and 11AM on Saturdays (can-only sales until noon).

Milo

• 3PM on Fridays and 12PM on Saturdays and Sundays.
