About

The Jewel of the Captain's Collection

The James Fairfield House is an intimate boutique inn situated near downtown Kennebunkport that offers a sophisticated yet relaxed coastal New England getaway. Originally built in 1813 as the private home of a Sea Captain, this historic Federal-era house retains period charm with wide pine floorboards and beamed ceilings. The nine guest rooms feature plush beds, cozy sitting areas with antique-style furnishings, and private tiled bathrooms all individually styled by local Maine artists.

At the James Fairfield House, guests can start their mornings sipping coffee on the rocking chairs on the porch, which overlooks flowering gardens and sculpted hedges. Hearty complimentary breakfasts - featuring fresh meats, hand cut fruit, and locally sourced ingredients - are served each morning by the fireplace in the front sitting room of the main house. Guests can enjoy private baths with walk-in showers. Working fireplaces are in all guest rooms with LED smart TVs, King/Queen beds with plush bedding, and Serta Presidential Pillowtop mattresses.

In the evenings, guests can store their wine in the onsite cellar or relax with a craft beer on the scarlet Adirondack chairs on the lawn. Access to paddleboards, kayaks and surfboards are available for delivery. Bike rentals offer visitors the ability to easily explore the Kennebunkport shops, art galleries, and bistros by the bay. With modern amenities, historic charm, and attentive service, the James Fairfield House epitomizes the timeless romantic ambiance of a New England cape.

The James Fairfield House is part of the Captains Collection of Inns, which also includes the Nathaniel Lord Mansion, William Jefferds House and Acton Patterson House. Booking is done through the collection's main site where guests can then choose individual houses and subsequent rooms to suite their preference.
